| dc.description.abstract | The history of gender relation worldwide has never been pleasant as women are always at a disadvantage position without any consideration for their emotions and aspirations. Left in this quagmire, women have resolved to take their destiny in their hands by embarking on the struggle forequality with men. This struggle is mirrored in literatures of the world: African male writers especially, present female characters in less than charitable light. Consequently, women writers, paying men in their own coins, present male characters as brutes and monsters. The article attempts an examination of the characterization of female characters to show on one hand what societies stand to gain if women are situated in the main stream of events and on the other hand to set a model for a balance representation of gender issues in world societies and Nigeria in particular. | en_US |
