The study was premised on Rational Choice theoiy. Exploratory research design was adopted for the study. Data were elicited from 11 Officers of Federal Road Safety Commission, and 8 Traffic Warden, using Key Informant Inter-views, and thereafter subjected to thematic analysis. Purposive sampling technique was adopted in selection of respondents for the study in order to elicit data from law enforcement agents with firsthand knowledge about traffic violation and traffic policing. The failure of traffic policing to deter prevalent traffic violation in the metropolis was attributed to the following challenges militating against traffic policing in the area: mob action, perception of drivers, interference from individuals who occupy positions of authority, bribe taking, and dearth or personnel and operational equipment. Among others, the study recommends organization of urgent extensive orientation/reorientation, and enlightenment programmes for commercial drivers in the area; organization of a forum between traffic law enforcement agents and influential people in the metropolis to discuss traffic rule enforcement, and discourage interference with traffic rule enforcement; Increase in risk of detection, apprehension and sanction through intensified policing; and joint enforcement between Road Safety Officers and armed Police Personnel in order to avoid mob action.en_US
