Abstract

Abandoned projects pose considerable challenges to the environment. This research seeks to examine the impact of abandoned projects on the environment in Nasarawa LG A. The study obtained data on some abandoned projects within the study area using both primary and secondary sources of data statistical tool in form of tables and plates were applied for the presentation and analysis of the data obtained on the causative factors and the impact of abandonment, findings identified major abandoned projects of residential category mostly taking about 60% of total development in the study area with other categories of commercial, industrial, administrative, agricultural and re-creative aspect forming remaining 40%). The assessed causes and impact on the environment using the investigative approach in research revealed wastage of scarce resources, poor planning/forecast in investment and environmental degradation, showing 8.5 to 11% are either abandoned or do not command a good stature. It is observed that finance related factor is the major driving force on abandonment. The research recommends that fund related causative factors of abandonment be given due consideration with good planning at the conceptual stage. This will surely minimize the incidence of abandonment.
