Abstract

Leadership as a vehicle for driving Nigeria to the part of greatness has been identified as one of the prime factors affecting leadership recruitment in Nigeria. This study examines the Electoral Act, 2022 as a vehicle for effective leadership recruitment in Nigeria. The study reviews the critical Sections of the Electoral Act, 2022 as a vehicle to drive the success of transparent and democratic recruitment of leaders in Nigeria in the 2023 General Elections. Using data generated through secondary> sources and subjected to descriptive analysis, the study explores the various meaning of Electoral Act, leadership and recruitment, factors that affect it and benefits associated with the effective leadership recruitment, the study finds out that situations usually determine the leadership style that may be applied to propel higher levels of transparent recruitment process in Nigeria electoral process is lacking. The study also revealed the issue of electronic accreditation of voters, electronic transmission of votes, establishment of electoral offences commission, resignation of political appointees’ before participating as delegates in either primaries’ or contest election, the limit of election expenses by political parties, death of a candidate before the official announcement of final result by the returning officer and a lots of other provisions that shall bring about credible, acceptable, transparent outcome of election result. However, this is not surprising considering the fact that recruitments of leadership in Nigeria are microcosms of the umbrella Nigeria society in which poor political leadership has denied the nation from transformational, prosperous and buoyant Nigeria. On the bases of the findings, the study recommended that electorates should only votes leaders who transformational incline than those who are transactional, Political parties to are screen their aspirants thoroughly before making them candidates, the provisions of the 2022 electoral Act should diligently adhere to and that any politician or their follower that flout the provision of the Act be severely punish according to the provision of the Act. The study, thus, conclude that unless there is effective, transparent and focused political leadership and virile followership at all levels, the vision of improved electoral process of transformation of leadership nationwide will remain a mirage
