Abstract
Cybecrime has become a global contending problem and so is the plight of its victims. The growth of information technology and computer connectivity creates space for criminal to exploit security vulnerabilities in the cyber space. This paper examined the social causes of cyber crime in Nigeria. The paper used secondary methods of data collection. The paper revealed that some of the social causes of cyber crime include, but not limited to, unemployment, urbanization, corruption, poverty, quest for wealth and negative role models. The paper cyber crime exist in our society not because of technological advancement alone but also because the society creates some social conditions make dissatisfied individuals see cyber crime as an alternative for them meet their basic needs. The paper recommended, among other things, that there should be more employment opportunities especially for the youth, the gap between the rich and the poor should be reduced through equitable distribution of resources, among others.
