Abstract

The activities of Boko Haram began gradually propagating a harmless message to the people. This attracted followers, and the support of the Borno state government. The groups later in 2006 bare its uglyface to the chagrin of the society and government. Between 2006 and today the entire terror machineiy of the group was let loose on the society, especially in Borno, Vo be and Adamawa states. These activities led to severe socio-economic consequences of monumental . proportion. This is despite past government efforts to deal with the situation in the last six years. The efforts of the present government are paying off The study set against this background examined the socio-economic consequences of the group's activities in the last six years. It also examined the challenges of 'reconstruction of the ravaged areas. The study used the documentaty research method, using Existing Data Analysis as its major instrument. The studyfound that there was substantial destruction and dislocation of socio-economic activities of Nigerians especially in the North. It also concluded that there are serious challenges in to rebuild of the devastated area. It recommended concerted efforts by government to prevent the re-occurrence of Boko Haram terror and the need for strategic planning involving all stakeholders in the reconstruction drive.
