Language and politics in the Nigeria milieu: The Tiv Experience

Language is very vital to human society and there is hardly any situation in human function that does not require its usage. Furthermore, for any ideas to be generated into politics, it must be sufficiently couched in human language. In other words ideas, knowledge, skills and experience required for political activities must be communicated to people through language. All the interventions and achievements ever recorded in human history have their roots in language.This explains why language and politics are extremely interwoven. Language, therefore play a major role in the development of die nation.lt also contributes to individual and societal development. This paper explores language usage as a centripetal force to the development of politics in Nigeria, using the Tiv language coinages political model for Nigerian politics. Accordingly, Tiv language has shown the capacity to demonstrate and present political behaviour used properly harnessed some aspects of its political behaviour can be integrated in to the Nigeria polity to move the forward.
