Abstract
language which is defined as a system of conventional spoken or written symbols used by humans in order to effectively communicate is dynamic in nature. Nigeria as a country using English as its official language has her surrounding neighbours who speak French. As such, there is a serious need for both teachers and learners of English to effectively communicate in English using the knowledge of French which today has become "in principle" another language in use in Nigeria. However, it-has been widely observed that Nigerians don’t take French seriously. This chapter tends to show in clear terms different ways in which French has and could still have great impact in the learning and teaching of the English language in Nigeria. It has been observed that the English language has most of its words and expressions loaned from French.
