One of the reasons for the setbacks has been, and still is, religion which many politicians and even the citizens have used to impede the smooth running of the political scene. In this study, we have looked at two Nigerian authors who have wntten in French (one of course is a translation into French). The authors seem to have treated the issues ofr eligion and new imperialism as it concerns our contemporary society. These two phenomena have tremendously affected the smooth evolution of the Nigerian democratic process. At the end of the study, it was concluded that the authors identified that the democratic process in the contemporary society is hampered by religious hypocrisy and new form of imperialism.
