Abstract

The study sought me to investigate if home background influences adolescent’s academic performance. The respondents of' the study were twenty (20) student , two (2) school teachers, one head teacher, twenty parents of the students who were also respondents all these were drawn from suleja, Niger State. The instruments used were questionnaires for the head teacher and the school teachers, interview guide for the student’s parents and documentary analysis forms for the adolescents. The finding swere organized in relation to the factors in the home which influence student academic performance and interpretation of data was done in form of pie charts, bar graphs and tables. The study came up with various recommendations among them: The parents or guardians in suleja should ensure that their children do not trick too long distances to and from school by residing near the school. Parents or guardians in suleja should always have a positive attitude towards their children's work Parents or guardians should be willing to provide resources necessary for their children's academic work to equip them with necessary skills and knowledge relevant to their level.
