Abstract
Muslim-Cliristian relations have been an issue since the historic rise of Islam more than fourteen centuries ago. Their complex history was in many cases characterized by constructive living together, but sometimes also marked by rivalry or war. Both the practical living together of individuals and communities of the two faiths, and the theological challenges, including the questions of Christian self-identity and self-expression in relation to Islam, have engaged Christians- through the centuries. The noble attitude of the Prophet (SAW), being in total harmony with the morality of the Qur’an, should be taken as an example of how members of different religions today should be treated. The justice of the Prophet (SAW) brought about understanding between people of different races. In many of his addresses, even in his final sermon,-the Prophet (SAW) stated that superiorit-' lies in the fear of Allah (SWT) not in the race, gender or ethnicity. This paper analyses the role which, the early relationship of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) with the Christians- will play in achieving peace security and nation building in Nigeria.
