Abstract
The work place environments in most of organization are adjudged to be unsafe and unhealthy majorly due to poorly designed workstations, unsuitable furniture, lack of ventilation, inappropriate lighting, excessive noise, insufficient safety measures in fire emergencies and lack of personal protective equipment. People working in such environment are prone to occupational disease and it impacts on employee’s performance. The study thus examines the effect of work environments on employee performance in selected banks in Kaduna state using descriptive research design. Independent student t-test was used to analysis and tests the stated hypothesis. Findings from the paper revealed that open office space has had no impact on Job effectiveness which in most cases had caused lot of distractions at work. It showed that the presence of noise and lack of office space reduces workers’ productivity due to distractions and increase in job-related stress. More so inconsistency in the amount of light provided have not significantly enhanced my job efficiency. It is recommended that adequate provision should be made for good lighting. Alternative power supply such as generators of solar energy can be considered at the workplace because investment in lighting will enhance workers’ productivity. More so, proper office space should be created for work privacy and less noise that distracts most of the workers. Workers of similar task can be paired in an office for smooth running of the organization.
