dc.description.abstractThis paper comprises of two parts: The phonogical peculiarities of /i/ and /u/ in Hausa. Non-Contrastive rising tone in Hausa. While part I specifically highlights the alternations of /i/ and /u/ with /*/ as well as their neutralization to /*/. Part 11, on the other hand, identifies certain attributes and function of a rising tone in Hausa. It ends by briefly discussing current state of affairs in the study of Hausa phonology in Nigerian Universities as well as Hausa studies generally in foreign Universities.en_US
