Abstract
This paper attempts an overhaul of conflict resolution as an antidote to poor policies implementation in education. Education has been accepted as a key index and power in all human efforts towards peace, progress and prosperity. The introduction sets the background to nationhood of the Nigerian state established on the premise of the conflict theorists' postulations. The understanding and utilization of diversities to build a peaceful and progressive ^nation is daily reflected in the famous Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria's (FRCN) network news giggle “uplifting the people and uniting the nation". Some salient shortcomings in the policy implementation efforts as occasioned by intervening obstacles which mostly have to do with differences amongst interest groups in the system-government functionaries, heads of institutions, teachers parents, NGOs, and students have been highlighted. The reactions of these people portend conflicts. The paper has portrayed the power of conflict resolutions by X-raying the contextual elements of conflict, conflict resolution and models for resolving contesting issues. Consequently, conflict resolution as a model for aiding successful implementation of education policies have been put forward. The paper thus concludes that Conflict in contemporary views is a fact’ of life and a precursor to positive change, if properly understood, it can become an opportunity to learn and create. Thus the toleration and institutionalization of conflict in our society becomes a norm.
