The realization of the enormous power of information has made libraries and information centers inevitably present in all sectors of a nation's economy. The paper examined Library and Information Science (LIS) education as an information-based course that has a major role in national development in Nigeria. It views development as continuous improvement in infrastructure provision, the rapid expansion of knowledge and technology that creates a strong educational system to help every citizen fulfill their obligation. LIS curriculum development in Nigeria has shown considerable strides in infusing ICT competencies as most LIS schools have developed relevant ICT courses to train prospective LIS graduates. The efforts put in place will make LIS prospective graduates add a figure to the population of this country, Nigeria, and make their various contributions to national development as information providers and distribution agents. However, LIS schools are hampered from the role of producing highly skilled LIS graduates because of the inadequate number of ICT facilities such as computer, hardware, and software, strong and reliable internet connection, etc. in LIS ICT laboratories and lecture rooms in Nigerian library schools. Based on the practical challenges, it was recommended that the concerned authorities and regulatory bodies ensure adequate funding and well-equipped ICT facilities such as computers, hardware, and software, strong internet connectivity, interactive Smart Board, etc.; training and retraining of LIS educators in LIS schools. The paper concludes that with adequate and timely interventions of government and other stakeholders for LIS schools, LIS education will respond better to existing and emerging trends in library and information science practice in the 21st centuryen_US
