INFLUENCE OF WORK ENVIRONMENT ON LIFE SATISFACTION AMONG STAFF OF MAKURDI CORRECTIONAL CENTRE, BENUE STATE NIGERIA

This study investigated the influence of work environment on life satisfaction of Correctional Staff of Makurdi Correctional Centre, Benue State. A total of one hundred and ninety four (194) out of the population of two hundred and seventy three (273) correctional staff participated in the study. The study adopted the cross-sectional survey research design and purposive sampling technique was used to select the participants. The hypothesis, correctional work environment will significantly influence life satisfaction was formulated and tested using instruments, work Environment by Moos (1875) end the life satisfaction scale by Diener, et al (1985) were administered participants. Result revealed a statistically significant influence of correctional work environment on life satisfaction of officers greater determinant of life satisfaction of correctional officers. in light of this, the study recommends that Nigerian Correctional authorities should make work environment very friendly and conducive as well as introduce a three-shift system which will forestall stressful demand of work amongst officers to guarantee a general high level of life satisfaction.
