Effect of Information and Communication Technology on Public Service Delivery: A Case Study of Beneficiaries in Lafia, Nigeria

Abstract

This study examined the effect of information and communication technology (ICT) on the public service delivery in Nasarawa State Civil Service. A descriptive survey design was employed where questionnaire was used to collect primary data from the field which was complemented by documentary sources. The method of data analysis used was the simple frequency conversion of responses to percentages while regression statistic was used to test the hypotheses of the study at α = 0.05 level of significant. This is to establish the significant relationship between the variables of the study. The results of the study showed that there is a significant positive effect of ICT on public service delivery. Also, the results indicated that ICT significantly improve public service delivery at reduce cost to the people. In addition, the results showed that ICT significantly ensure transparency and accountability in the public service delivery in the study area. Finally, the results indicated that the use of ICT was significantly affected by some challenges which include but not limited to poor infrastructure. The study therefore recommended that there must be provision for continuous training of the state government personnel on ICT to keep them abreast of the new development in information technology.
