Abstract
The importance of sport to human and societal development cannot be over emphasized. Sporting activities usually take place in gathering where individuals from across virtually all sections or segments of the society participate. Due to the developmental relevance of sporting activities increasing concern is being taken on the security of lives and properties in sporting events. This paper examines the various security threats/risk and security management of sporting events. The paper used secondary sources of data collection and it revealed that some of these security threats include explosive devices, attempted assault or murder, seismic instability, theft and vandalism, among others. The paper further revealed that for security of sporting events to effectively managed, certain tools must be set in motion including intelligence, presence, transport and layout The paper concluded by emphasizing on the need the importance of intensified proactive measures in every sporting event. Security management in sporting events is not the business of security agents alone but a collective responsibility involving even the participants. It requires security network.
