| dc.description.abstract | Nigeria's growing population increasingly challenges the quest for better healthcare services by the government, which is already over-burdened with the responsibility of providing social services including the healthcare services. However, government can no longer bear the cost alone going by the exponential increase in both the morbidity and mortality rates of the population which exert unbearable pressure on the cost and quantum of healthcare service provision. Hence, the need for an effective advocacy for easy access and affordable healthcare services. That led to the establishment of the National Health Insurance Scheme to augment government's efforts. The scheme is designed to achieve a number of objectives to alleviate the health challenges of Nigerians. This study adopts a descriptive survey design method to examine the impact and the challenges of the National Health Insurance Scheme Implementation since 2005 with specific reference to the National Teachers' Institute's Headquarters workers. It further adopts the use of a descriptive survey research method. The theoretical framework applicable to this research work is motivational theory propounded by Vroom because it recognizes that if workers are motivated, they can be more productive. This paper proffers recommendations to the federal, state and local governments as well as the insurance scheme implementers to maximize the political will to perform effectively in the discharge of the insurance commission’s mandate with a view to accomplishing its set objectives. | en_US |
