Abstract

Mergers, Acquisition and Consolidation are a useful tool to management in business restructuring and repositioning for the purpose of ensuring survival. This study examines the concepts of mergers, acquisition and consolidation and also examines whether there is any relationship between them. For the proper conduct of the study, data was collected from secondary sources. The Analysis of Variance was used to test the hypotheses set up in the study by using 15% growth rate as measurement yardstick. In the final analysis, it was found out that mergers have led to significant growth in gross earning and profit of the banks. The study recommended the need to create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive through mergers by allowing the forces of demand and supply to determine the share prices merging bank and also give more time for banks to negotiate for mergers.
