Abstract

The Nigerian government has, over the years introduced various macroeconomic policies in order to develop the non-oil sector, with the aim of developing the overall economys but without success. This s/udv examined the effect of exports on economic growth in Nigeria. An autoregressive distributed lag model was used to carry out the analysis. It was found that non-oil agricultural exports have positive and significant effect on economic growth while non-oil manufacturing exports have negative relationships with it. Thus, it was recommended that there is need for concerted effort from the government at all levels and private sector at fighting the challenges of the non-oil manufacturing exports of the economy. Frantic efforts should be made in processing commodities before exporting them. This will enhance the economy's ability to export finished products as opposed to raw products.
