Item Open Access AMPACT OF GUIDANCE AND COUNSELING SERVICES ON ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OF STUDENTS IN SOME SELECTED SECONDARY SCHOOLS OF ABUJA METROPOLIS(Department of Guidance and Counselling faculty of Education, Nasarawa Satate Universitry Keffi., 2019-10-19) Ochoche, Godwin AbrahamThe study the impact of guidance and counseling services on the academic performance of students in some selected secondary schools in Abuja metropolis aimed at determining the impact of guidance and counseling services on academic performance of students, to examine the relationship between discipline and students academic performance and to investigate on the factors affecting the performance of students in some secondary school in Abuja metropolis. The study made use of primary data which are gotten from the distribution of a structured research questionnaires; the sample size for the study is 200. The study made use of survey research design and the Pearson correlation method for the analysis. The study discovered the following: that children without guidance perform poorly academically; that parental guide helps to improve students’ performance. The study therefore concluded that there is a strong relationship between guidance counseling services and students’ performance. The study also made the following useful recommendations: the need to improve the level of training of teacher counselors in guidance and counseling; that the Teacher counselors should take advantage of the positive attitude of the students to enhance career counseling in their schools; and that Guidance and counseling programmer should be strengthened in order to improve the academic performance of secondary schools in the area.Item Open Access RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ANXIETY DISORDERS AND STUDENTS ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT IN MATHEMATICS AMONG SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL IN NASARAWA WEST SENATORIAL ZONE, NASARAWA STATE(Department of Educational Foundations, Facaulty of Education, Nasarawa State University, Keffi., 2019-10-20) Bala, Faruk.The study investigated the relationship between anxiety disorder and students‟ academic achievement in mathematics among senior secondary schools in Nasarawa state. The study adopted co-relational survey research design. The population of the study comprised of all senior secondary schools (SS1) students totaling 4,520 in Nasarawa West senatorial zone of Nasarawa State, Nigeria. The sample size consisted of 361 students, randomly selected from two randomly selected secondary schools in each of the five local government area. Two instruments were used to collect data in this study. These are the self developed questionnaire tagged Anxiety Disorder Questionnaire (ADQ) and Mathematics Achievement Test (MAT). The findings from this study revealed that there is a significant relationship between anxiety disorder and students‟ academic performance in mathematics, there is a significant relationship between general anxiety disorder and students Mathematics Achievement, there is a significant relationship between social anxiety disorder and students Mathematics Achievement, there is a significant relationship between obsessive-compulsive anxiety disorder and students Mathematics achievement and there is a significant difference between male and female anxiety disorder and students Mathematics Achievement. The work therefore recommend that Teachers should employ different strategies that would reduce anxiety disorder toward students‟ academic achievement in mathematics students-centered and techniques such as frequent testing, assignments to reduce students test anxiety in mathematics test. Teachers should announce every test and give students enough time to prepare so as reduce generalized anxiety disorder both physically and mentally.
