Item Open Access MAXIMIZING THE IMPACT: STRATEGIES FOR ENHANCING VISIBILITY AND ACCESSIBILITY OF SCHOLARLY CONTENT IN ACADEMIC DIGITAL REPOSITORIES(Department of Library and Information Science, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2024-01-12) Mohammed, Abubakar Abdullahi; Maifata, Mu'azu Nurudeen; Mohammed, Lawal AminuAcademic digital repositories are crucial for preserving and disseminating scholarly knowledge in the digital age. This article explores the challenges and strategies for enhancing the visibility and accessibility of scholarly content within these repositories. Drawing on recent research and case studies, we examine the proliferation of digital repositories with the broader trends of digitization and open access in scholarly communication. The importance of visibility and accessibility in scholarly content cannot be overstated, as evidenced by studies demonstrating scholars' preferences for online access and the positive correlation between accessibility and citation impact. However, repositories face numerous challenges, including managing the volume of scholarly content, limited resources, and adherence to evolving standards. To address these challenges, repositories can employ strategies such as metadata optimization, search engine optimization, integration with discovery platforms, social media promotion, and compliance with accessibility standards. Additionally, embracing open access principles and fostering collaboration among stakeholders are crucial for advancing the accessibility and impact of scholarly content. Case studies of successful repositories, such as arXiv and PubMed Central, offer insights into effective practices for enhancing visibility and accessibility. Academic digital repositories can achieve their goals of promoting cooperation and creativity in research as well as easy access to scholarly content by putting these tactics into practice and adopting open access principles.
