Item Open Access COUNSELLING COUPLES AGAINST MARITAL CONFLICT FOR FAMILY SECURITY(Department of Guidance and Counselling, Nasarawa State University Keffi., 2018-02-05) Ugbe, Lucy Ungie-Ada; Idiege, Edward E; Reamen, J.I.Conflict among couple is a growing threat in our society today thereby causing insecurity among couples and other members of the family. This paper examines the causes of marital conflict as it affects couple. A number of causes highlighted in this paper include infidelity, domestic violence, control, disagreement over finance and parenting. Since conflict is imminent among couple, the paper suggest ways of handling conflict that will lead to personal happiness and healthy relationship in the lives of the couple. It stresses the need for stability and security in marriages and families for harmonious living both within the family. Community and society at large. The conjoint family therapy and conflict resolution strategics arc suggested for the professional counsellor to help family members. Furthermore, the paper looks at the importance of marriage counselling, and counselling interventions needed to resolve conflict among couple. Finally it was recommended that there must be adequate provision for preventive, remedial, and rehabilitative counseling interventions through marriage and sex guidance. Also regular seminars and workshops should be organized for couples on issues that have to do with conflict resolution and marital harmony. Such seminars could be organized and conducted by government at various levels (Federal, state, and local councils), religious bodies c.g. churches and mosques, and nongovernmental organizations (NGOs).
