Item Open Access THE ROLE OF FAMILY TIES IN NATIONAL INTEGRATION: IMPLICATION FOR COUNSELLING(Department of Guidance and Counselling, Nasarawa State University Keffi., 2018-02-06) Reamen, J.I.; Ugbe, Lucy Ungie-AdaNigeria is a multi - ethnic nation comprising of different language, cultures and traditions. The tradition and cultures arc expressed in their cultural festivals. The multi - ethnic's nature has made the issues of national integration almost impossible despite the efforts of the Government. This multi - ethnic nature is causing divisions among Nigerians, all bids to promote national integration has failed. It is therefore necessary to fall back to the family the first agent of socialization to forestall unity, oneness, progress, peace and stability in Nigeria the paper examines the benefits that would be derive from national integration, overview of festivals that can promote national integration, the role of the family in promoting national integration and counselling strategics that can promote family tics for national integration arc discussed. It is recommended that the government, NGOs, human right activists and professional counsellors should encourage families to live up to expectations in uniting its members.
