Item Open Access SPECIES COMPOSITION OF INDOOR RESTING DENSITY (IRD) OF MOSQUITOES IN DOMA LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, NASARAWA STATE, NORTH-CENTRAL NIGERIA.(Department of Geology and Mining, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2016-10-25) Lama, P.S; Samdi, L.M; Jatau, B.S.This study presented the Indoor Resting Density (IRD) of female Anopheles mosquitoes in the study area of Doma Local Government Area, Nasarawa State, Nigeria. Sampling methods were carried out using Pyrethrum Spray Cach (PSC) and CDC light trap for indoor resting mosquitoes. The IRD was high during the rainy season and low during the dry season. There are lots of breeding sites during the rainy seasons and fewer breeding sites during the dry season. The total numbers of mosquitoes sampled, CDC light trap had the highest number of species of 2382 (94.9%) while the least was recorded in PSC method with 127(5.07%). The study also showed that only two species of mosquitoes were predominant in the study area. The use of treated insecticide net should be encouraged to reduce the rate of malaria transmission and destruction of temporary breeding sites of mosquitoes during the rainy seasons.
