It is quite a difficult task to give an adequate and concise definition of the subject, economics. This, of course, is not peculiar to economics, as it is applicable to other subjects. As a result of this there are quite a lot of definitions given by different authors and economists. The earliest definitions were in terms of wealth. Thus, Adam Smith considered his work to be an “Inquiry into the nature and causes of the wealth of nations”. Economics has also been defined as the practical science of the production and distribution of wealth {Concise Oxford Dictionary). Some schools of thought have defined economics in terms of welfare. This stresses the human as well as the material aspects of the subject, regarding economics as a means of studying how total production could be increased so that the standard of living of a people might be improved. Still economics has been seen as a study of mankind in the ordinary business of life. It examines that part of individual and social action which is most closely connected with the use of material requisites to attain individual as well as societal well-being.Item Open Access EFFICACY OF GINGER OIL AS PHYTOCHEMICAL INSECTICIDE FOR THE CONTROL OF Callosobruchus maculatus (F.) IN STORED COWPEA(Department of Agronomy, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 1999-01-01) Sastawa, B.M.; Lale, N.E.S.; Ajayi, Folorunso A.Ginger oil dosage o f 0,50, 100, 150. 200 and 250mgl0g cowpea was evaluated under laboratory conditions (24 - 3 0 0 and 45 - 68% r.h) in Maiduguri, for their 0 0 0 3 in protecting stored cowpea from damage by Callosobruchus maculatus (Coleptera: bruclridae). The results show that ginger oil significantly reduced egg laying and adult emergence and increased egg mortality in c. maculatus. The results suggest that ginger oil can be used to protect cowpea against infestation and damage by c. maculatus in the semi-aridzone of Nigeria.Item Open Access PROFILE DISTRIBUTION OF AVAILABLE MOLYBDENUM IN SOME SOILS OF DAMBOA/CHIBOK PLAINS, BORNO STATE, NIGERIA(Department of Agronomy, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2000-01-01) Sandabe, M.K.; Nwaka, G.I.; Ajayi, Folorunso A.Damboa/Chibok plain has an area مم about 7,970 1 * . Six pedons derived from various parent materials ٥١٤١٧ studied. The soils ,were manly derived jrom argillaceous sediments, shales, basement complex, basalt, sandstones and drift sandy deposits. The soils ■were slightly acidic and had to medium percentage organic carbon. The textural class ranged from sandy clay loam to clay. The mean available content o f molybdenum in the six pedons studied ■was 0.17 / * / ع. There ■was no definite trend in the content o f available molybdenum with increasing depth. There was a non significant negative correlation between available molybdenum and some o f the important chemical properties (pH, organic carbon and available phosphorus). However, the relationship between available molybdenum and effective cation exchange capacity o f the soils was significant at 5 0 5Item Open Access TEACHER PREPARATION FOR THE EDUCATION OF THE FULBE NOMADS IN NIGERIA(Department of Plant Science and Biotechnology, Nasarawa State University, Keffi., 2000-07) Isa, Hauwa'u; Aliyu, Tukur NafisatuItem Open Access CONTEMPORARY ISSUES IN ECONOMIC AND FINANCIAL ANALYSTS(Department of Banking and Finance, Faculty Of Administration Nasarawa State University, Keffi., 2000-12-13) Udenwa, Theresa AThe theory of demand seeks to establish the relationship between the quantity demanded of a commodity and its price. It offers an explanation for variations in demand and the downward sloping nature of a normal demand curve. There are two basic approaches to the explanation of individual consumer behaviour. One of which is the cardinal utility approach simply referred to as the utility approach while the other is the ordinal utility approach otherwise called the indifference curve, approach. Both approaches are useful in that they provide an explanation for the normal downward sloping demand curve in addition each approach yields valuable but different insights into consumer behaviour. But whereas the cardinal approach puts precise values on alternatives available to the consumer, the indifference curve method ranks the alternatives from low to high with no precise values being placed on the magnitude of the intervals between them. Thus whereas the cardinal or utility approach ranks utility derived from commodities in terms of utils the ordinal approach ranks them in terms of one being preferred against the other without giving the exact magnitude of the preference.Item Open Access STAFF DEVELOPMENT AND WELFARE(Department of Sociology, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2001-01-16) Agber, K.; Husseini A.; Suleiman Bala Mohammed; Abubakar I.W.Item Open Access THE ROLE OF DEMOCRACY IN SUSTAINING SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY IN NIGERIA(Department of Plant Science and Biotechnology, Nasarawa State University, Keffi., 2002-03-05) Isa, Hauwa'u; Aliyu, Tukur Nafisatu; Sawa, Mary; Anyanwu, Felix O.Item Open Access General Introduction to Guidance and Counselling(Department of Guidance and Counselling, Nasarawa State University Keffi., 2002-03-24) Ugbe, Lucy Ungie-AdaItem Open Access THE RELEVANCE OF GUIDANCE & COUNSELLING SN THE 6-3-3-4 SYSTEM OF EDUCATION(Department of Guidance and Counselling, Nasarawa State University Keffi., 2002-03-25) Ugbe, Lucy Ungie-AdaItem Open Access THE HISTORY AND DEVELOPMENT OF GUIDANCE AND COUNSELLING(Department of Guidance and Counselling, Nasarawa State University Keffi., 2002-03-26) Ugbe, Lucy Ungie-AdaItem Open Access HISTORY OF SPECIAL EDUCATION(Department of Guidance and Counselling, Nasarawa State University Keffi., 2002-04-21) Ugbe, Lucy Ungie-AdaItem Open Access REINFORCEMENT AND PUNISHMENT(Department of Guidance and Counselling, Nasarawa State University Keffi., 2002-04-30) Ugbe, Lucy Ungie-AdaItem Open Access MOTIVATION(Department of Guidance and Counselling, Nasarawa State University Keffi., 2002-09-12) Ugbe, Lucy Ungie-AdaItem Open Access THE PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION OF EXCEPTIONAL CHILDREN(Department of Guidance and Counselling, Nasarawa State University Keffi., 2002-09-20) Ugbe, Lucy Ungie-AdaItem Open Access PHILOSOPHICAL QOUTATIONS(Department of Political Science, Nasarawa State University, Keffi., 2003-01-01) Abdullahi, Mohammed YammaItem Open Access A HANDBOOK OF COST ACCOUNTING VOLUME 1(Department of Business Administration, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2003-04-10) Adigizey, John DollayItem Open Access CULTURAL DYNAMICS IN RESOURCES UTILIZATION, CONSERVATION AND MANAGEMENT AMONG RURAL COMMUNITIES IN BORNO STATE(Department of Geography, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2003-08-01) Ayuba, H.K.Man has been a factor in environmental change for at least 40, 000 years, since the late stages of the Pleistocene ice age (Knowles and Wareing, 1980). However, the scale of man’s impacts on the environment has accelerated rapidly since the Industrial Revolution. As a consequence, it is very difficult to define the term natural environment because so many parts of what is generally - < taken to be natural environment, such as vegetation and animal life, have been so greatly altered that they might be considered man-made or cultural landscape. These changes have been brought about as a result of man’s attempts to modify the earth’s surface to increase its capacity to support him, and to satisfy his increasingly large range of needs and desires. Cultural landscapes thus, reflect the socio-economic aims and the technical abilities of any people living in any given area.Item Open Access Criminal Fraud and Developing Countries(Department of Sociology, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2004-01-06) Udo, Chikezie OsisioguItem Open Access THE WEB OF NIGERIAN POLITICS(Department of Political Science, Nasarawa State University, Keffi., 2004-02-14) Abdullahi, Mohammed Yamma
