Item Open Access ASSESSMENT OF THE IMPLEMENTATION OF HOMEGROWN SCHOOL FEEDING PROGRAMME IN UBE SCHOOLS IN SOUTH-WEST NIGERIA(Department of Educational Foundations, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2020-09-24) Ayotunde, Adewale Khinde; Sani, Yakubu; Uwaleke, Gladys ChineloThe study assessed the implementation of Home Grown-School Feeding Programme in UBE Schools in South-West Nigeria. The study was guided by two research questions with corresponding two objectives and hypotheses. The research design used for this study was the cross- sectional survey research design. The population of the study consisted of 38, 423 (154 Local Government Educational secretaries 2814 principals and 35455 teachers). The sample size of this study consisted of379 using Krejcie and Morgan (1970) Table and simple random technique respectively. The researcher developed a questionnaire for data collection from the respondents. The questionnaire is tagged "Implementation of Home Grown School Feeding Programme in UBE Schools Questionnaire' (1HGSFPUBESQ). The instrument was duly validated and it yielded 0.80 as logical validity index. The coefficient of internal consistency of 0.75 was obtained after pilot testing the instrument. Descriptive statistics of mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions while Pearson product moment correlation was employed to test all the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study indicated that there was a significant relationship between provision of funds and implementation of home-grown school feeding programme in South- Western Nigeria UBE schools and there was a significant relationship between recruitment of food vendors and implementation ofh ome grown school feeding programme in South-Western Nigeria UBE schools. One of the recommendations of the study was that the various state governments in South-Western Nigeria should solicit for special intervention funds from donor agencies like United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), European Union (EU), African Union (AU) among others to facilitate the successful implementation of the home-grown- school feeding programme in the UBE schools.Item Open Access Financial Management Practices of Principals and Implementation of Education Laws in Secondary Schools in Nasarawa State~(Department of Education Management, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2020-06-15) Uwaleke, Gladys Chinelo; Sani, Yakubu; Stephen, UsmanThis study examined the financial management practices of principals and implementation of education laws of secondary'schools in Nasarawa State. Three (3) research questions and three (3) hypotheses were formulated and tested for the study. It adopted descriptive survey design. The Population sample of the study was Teachers and students representing I2%_of_the total Population were sampled from three southern districts using stratified random sampling. The structured questionnaire developed by the researchers was used to collect data for the study. The instrument used for the data collection of the study was a modified four point-Likert- type questionnaire of Strongly Agreed (SA), Agree (A), Disagree (D) and Strongly Disagree (SD). Frequency count and percentage were used to analyze the three research j questions, while Chi-square test was used to test the three hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings revealed that use of education law has a significant impact on principals procurement fund of secondary schools in Nasarawa state and use of education law has influence on principals utilization of funds for national cohesion and education laws has significant impact on principals financial record keeping practices of secondary schools in Nasarawa State. Based on the findings of the study, it was recommended that government should allocate sufficient funds for the management of school. Also there should be sanction of school administrators involves in the acts for national cohesion.Item Open Access Higher Education and Labour Market(Department of Educational Foundations, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2022-09-30) Uwaleke, Gladys Chinelo; Iyala, Felix Emcka; Sani, YakubuItem Open Access Principals’ Instructional Supervisory Roles and Teachers’ Job Performance in Public Secondary Schools in Ekiti State, Nigeria(Department of Education Management, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2021-06-03) Uwaleke, Gladys Chinelo; Iyala, Felix Emeka; Sani, YakubuThe study assessed the principals' supervisory roles and teachers' job performance in public secondary schools in Ekiti State. Two objectives with corresponding two research questions and hypotheses were formulated to guide the study. The correlational survey research design was used for the study. A sample size of693 teachers was selected from a population of6936 using the multistage and simple random sampling techniques. The researchers' self-designed questionnaire that consisted of 12 items was used for data collection. The instrument is titled "Teachers' Questionnaire on Principals' Instructional Supervisory Roles and Teachers' Job Performance (TQPISRTJP). The instrument was duly validated and it yielded 0.86 as the index of rational validity. Cronbach Alpha was employed to determine the reliability of the instrument and it yielded 0.76 as the coefficient of internal consistency. Descriptive statistics of means and standard deviations were used to answer the research questions while Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study indicated that there was a significant relationship between the principals' role of classroom observation and teachers' job performance in public secondary schools in Ekiti State and there was a significant relationship between the principals' role of staff evaluation and teachers' job performance in public secondary schools in Ekiti State. The study recommended that the Ekiti State Ministry of Education needs to organize workshops, conferences, symposia and seminars for principals to enable them acquire the requisite knowledge and skills needed for classroom observation of teachers by identifying their teaching weaknesses and develop strategies for teachers to overcome the weaknesses and perform their job effectively. The study was guided by four objectives with four research questions and hypotheses. The research design used for this study was the cross-sectional survey research design. The total population of the study consisted of 4,014 teachers obtained from all the public secondary schools in Abuja. The sample size of the study was obtained using census sampling technique and it consisted of 983 respondents. The researcher’s self-developed instrument called ‘Questionnaire on the Human Resource Management and Teacher Job Performance (QHMTJP) was used for data collection. The instrument was validated and it yielded 0.68 as the validity index. The instrument was pilot tested on 20 teachers and the reliability index of 0.75 was obtained. Three (3) Research Questions, with corresponding objectives and three (3) hypotheses were generated to guide the study. The study was guided by cross sectional survey research. The population of the study comprises 2623 principals and teachers drawn from fifty five (55) Secondary Schools in Oyo State, Nigeria. Lucky dip method of Simple Random Sampling Technique was employed and 1312 principals and teachers was used as sample size of the study. Self designed structured questionnaire that consisted 24 items was used for data collection. The self- designed structured Questionnaire yielded 0.82 as the logical validity index and 0.90 as a coefficient of internal consistency. Descriptive statistics of mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions while product moment correlation (PPMC) statistic was employed to test hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance one of the-findings of the study revealed that there is a significant relationship between teacher working conditions and teacher effectiveness in public secondary schools in Oyo State, Nigeria. Recommendation based on this finding is that the working conditions of teacher should be improved upon in order to enhance teachers' effectiveness in public secondary schools.Item Open Access Teacher Commitment and Students’ Academic Achievement in Nasarawa State Secondary Schools, Nigeria(Department of Education Management, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2023-03-01) Uwaleke, Gladys Chinelo; Sani, Yakubu; Mildred, Charity JoelThe study assessed the ‘influence of teacher commitment and students’ academic achievement in Nasarawa State secondary schools. The study was guided by three objectives with three research questions and hypotheses. The research design used for this study was the cross-sectional survey research design. The total population of the study consisted of 5605 subjects obtained from all the 253 public secondary schools in Nasarawa State. The sample size of the study was obtained using census sampling technique and it consisted of 1096 respondents. The researcher’s self- developed instrument called “Questionnaire on Teacher Commitment and Students’ Academic Achievement (QTCSAA)” was used for data collection. The instrument was validated and it yielded 0.75 as the validity index. The instrument was pilot tested on 20 teachers and the reliability index of 0.70 was obtained. Descriptive statistics of mean and standard deviation were used to answer the research questions while Chi-square statistic was used to test all the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The major findings of the study indicated that The findings of hypothesis one in table 6 indicated1 that teacher workload has low significant influence on students’ academic achievement in Nasarawa State secondary schools, there is a low a significant influence of health care services on students’ academic achievement in Nasarawa State secondary schools and teacher workload has low significant influence on students’ academic achievement in Nasarawa State secondary schools. The study recommended among others that the the Nasarawa Ministry of Education should empoy more teachers to match with the number of students to avoid the issue of allocating more workload to teachers that prevent them from being committed in undertaking their assigned responsibilities diligently to improve the academic achievement of students in secondary schools in the state.Item Open Access TEACHERS’ PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND STUDENTS’ ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT IN PUBLIC SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS OF NORTH CENTRAL STATES, NIGERIA(Department of Education Management, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2023-03-11) Uwaleke, Gladys Chinelo; Sani, Yakubu; Inchitiwa, Samson WilfredThe study focused on the assessment of the Teachers' Professional Development and Students' Academic Achievement in Public Senior Secondary Schools of North Central States, Nigeria. The study was guided by three research questions with the corresponding three objectives and three hypotheses. The research design used for this study was the descriptive survey research design. The population of the study consisted of 45, 922 subjects. The sample size of the study consisted of 4305 respondents. The researcher's self-developed instrument that consisted of 32 items was used for data collection. The instrument was duly validated and it yielded 0.83 as a logical validity index. The instrument was pilot tested on 50 staff and the coefficient of internal consistency of 0.79 was obtained. Descriptive statistics of mean, standard deviation and simple percentage were used to answer the research questions while Pearson's product moment correlation was used for testing the hypotheses. The major findings of the study indicated that there is a low significant relationship between workshops and conferences and students' academic achievement in public senior secondary schools in North Central States, Nigeria, there is a low significant relationship between mentoring and students’ academic achievement in public senior secondary schools in North Central States, Nigeria and there is a low significant relationship between induction course and students' academic achievement in public senior secondary schools in North Central States, Nigeria. The study recommended among others that various state ministries of education in the North Central of Nigeria should set aside special funds to organize workshops and sponsor teachers for conferences to help them acquire additional skills and knowledge on the modern teaching techniques and strategies that will help them to teach the students effectively to improve their academic achievement.
