Concern about the increase in unmarried adolescence pregnancy has been worrisome throughout Africa. Taken as a region, the countries of the sub-Saharan Africa have the highest level of early child bearing in the world (WHO, 2015). Teenage pregnancy has become a public concern which has generated a great deal in Nigeria. In the same light, an NGO (African health programme) based in Makurdi that works with vulnerable children and the out of school youths asserted that a close look at statistics shows that many vulnerable children are dropped by teenage parents who in one way or the other gets pregnant, deliver and sooner or later abandon the children to go in search of greener pastures. According to the NGO, many out of school youths dropped-out vrom school. Youths dropped from school when they discover that there are pregnant aid in most cases never return back to school.Item Open Access EFFECT OF COMMUNITY COUNSELLING ON POST TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER AND DEPRESSION OF INTERNALLY DISPLACED PERSONS IN GUMA LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF BENUE STATE(Department of Educational Foundation, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2019-02-02) Reamen, Justina I.; Mayange, Levi Terzungwe; Tseaa, Moses VershimaThis paper examined the effect of community counselling on posttraumatic stress disorder and depression of internally displaced persons in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State. The study adopted a Quasi-experimental research design. The total population of the study was 2,352, consisting of all internally displaced persons in two (2) I DP camps in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State. A sample size of Sixty (60) subjects was used for the study. An intact group size of 28 IDPs using purposive sampling technique was selected from IDP camp at Ukpiam which was used for the control group while IDP camp at Daudu with 32 IDPs was used for the experimental group based on their needs. A self structured questionnaire titled depression, posttraumatic stress disorder and community counselling scale (DPCCS) was used. The control group, made up of IDPs from Ukpiam was given placebo on community living, while the experimental group at Daudu was treated with community counselling therapeutic techniques in form of lessons in 20 sessions. The data collected were analyzed using inferential statistics. Mean rating and the standard deviation were used to answer the research questions while ANCOVA was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The result indicated that community counselling have significant effect on depression and posttraumatic stress disorder of internally displaced people in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State. The study recommended that community counsellors should be made available by the Government and NGOs to sensitize the public on the need for unity, peace and psychological well being of the internally displaced persons.Item Open Access GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE PREVENTION STRATEGIES IN NORTH CENTRAL GEO-POLITICAL ZONE OF NIGERIA(Department of Educational Foundation,Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2017-06-11) Nwosu, Patience Ngozi; Mayange, Levi Terzungwe; Tseaa, Moses VershimaThis study investigated gender-based violence prevention strategies among the people of North- Central geo-political of Nigeria. The purpose of study was to investigate the gender base violence prevention strategies among the people. Two research questions and null hypotheses guided the' study. A descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. The population of study comprises ION 7 5 men and \ women. The sample size was 3 70 respondents. J 0 items self developed instrument titled: Gender based violence prevention in North central zone of Nigeria. Questionnaire (GBVPO), was administered to respondents. Data collected were analyzed using mean and standard deviation to answered research questions and one sample test statistics was used to test null research hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study revealed that creating awareness of the scope of the problems and its impact, improve services for survivors of violence and enabling laws has significant influence on prevention of gender based violence in Nigeria. It employed a descriptive survey design. Two research questions were asked and two hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance. The sample size of 300 pupils was employed using the specification of Research Advisor (2006). A selfdeveloped instrument titled: Enuresis and psychosocial adjustment scale (EPAS) was adopted for the study. The instrument was administered by the researcher by personal visit to the sampled schools. The data collected were analyzed using chi-square statistics tested at 0.05 level of significance. The results showed that Nocturnal Enuresis has a significant impact on psychosocial adjustment of primaiy school pupils in Makurdi Local Government Area of Benue state. The study recommended that counsellors be made available to assist pupils to adjust their level of depression, shyness, low self esteem, withdrawal, anxiety and social isolation.Item Open Access INFLUENCE OF ADOLESCENT DELINQUENCY ON CAREER ASPIRATIONS OF SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENTS IN NORTH EAST SENATORIAL DISTRICT OF BENUE STATE(Department of Educational Foundation, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2015-08-08) Gabriel, Terzungwe Akume; Mayange, Levi Terzungwe; Tseaa, Moses VershimaThis Study examined the influence of adolescent delinquency on career aspiration of secondary school students in North Senatorial District of Benue State. A descriptive survey design was used. The sample consisted of 381 respondents from a population of56.428 students. Two research questions and two hypotheses guided the study. A self developed questionnaire titled: Adolescent delinquency and career aspiration questionnaire (ADODAQ) was administered to respondents. Data collected were analyzed using percentages and Chi-square statistics. The result showed that, bullying and truancy had significant influence on career aspirations of secondary school students. Based on these findings, the researchers recommended individual and group counseling as well as seminars and workshops and career talks to enlighten parents, bullies and targets on the dangers of adolescent's delinquency in general because of the negative influence such behaviours have on career aspiration and choiceItem Open Access INFLUENCE OF COGNITIVE BEHAVIOUR THERAPY ON ANXIETY DISORDER AMONG SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENT’S IN KEFFI LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA, NASARAWA STATE, NIGERIA(Department of Educational Foundation, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2019-10-10) Tseaa, Moses Vershima; Ugbe, L.U.; Kpanja, Kashim LaguThis study determined the influence of cognitive behaviour therapy on anxiety disorder among secondary school students in Keffi Government Area, Nasarawa State, Nigeria. The study adopted a descriptive survey7 design. A sample size of 388 students was obtained from a population of 70,082 students in Keffi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. A self structured questionnaire titled; Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Anxiety Disorder Scale (CBTADS) was used for collection of data. The data obtained were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Chi square was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The results showed that cognitive behaviour therapy has influence on panic and phobic disorder among secondary? school students. The study recommended that the government should make sure that counsellors and psychotherapists are made available in schools to help students adjust their negative thoughts towards their academics.Item Open Access INFLUENCE OF PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT IN EXAMINATION MALPRACTICES ON STUDENTS’ STUDY HABITS AMONG TERTIARY INSTITUTIONS IN KOGI STATE, NIGERIA(Department of Educational Foundation, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2018-04-04) Mayange, Levi Terzungwe; Kpanja, Kashim Lagu; Ibrahim, Jibrin Eneojo; Tseaa, Moses VershimaThis study examined the influence of parental involvement in examination malpractice on students study habits among tertiary institution students in Kogi East Senatorial District. A descriptive research survey design was used. The sample consisted of 370 respondents from a population of 13,605 students. Two research question and two hypotheses guided the study. A self-developed questionnaire titled: parental Involvement in Examination Malpractice on Students Study Habits Questionnaire (PIEMSSAQ) was administered to respondents. Data collected were analyzed using mean, standard deviation and chi-square statistics. The result showed that parents significantly support their wards in examination malpractice. Parents offered financial and physical support to their wards which negatively in Hue need the study habits of their wards. Based on the findings, the study recommended that parents should be counselled with the rules and regulations of examinations and those educational administrators should emphasize the checking of students in examinations. This will help check the influence of parental involvement in examination malpractice on students study habits.Item Open Access THE ROLE OF WOMEN ORGANIZATIONS IN CREATING AN INCLUSIVE SOCIETY IN NORTH CENTRAL GEO-POLITICAL ZONE, NIGERIA(Department of Educational Foundation,Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2017-11-12) Nwosu, Patience Ngozi; Mayange, Levi Terzungwe; Tseaa, Moses VershimaThe study examined (lie role of women organizations in creating an inclusive society in North Central geo-political zone of Nigeria. Specifically, the study set out to ascertain the role of Christian women organizations and Muslim women organizations in creating an inclusive society in Nigeria which is void on discrimination and inequalities. A descriptive survey design was employed for the study The target population of the study comprised of 10, 475 women in North Central zone of Nigeria. The simple random sampling was used to select 370 respondents. A self-developecl instrument was used tided women organizations and inclusive society questionnaire (IV01S0). A reliability test was conducted using 20 women who were not part of the sample and a chronbach alpha coefficient of().S2 was gotten which was found reliable for the study. The study used mean, scores standard deviation and chi square statistics in the analysis of data. The findings of the study - revealed that Christian women organizations and Muslim women organizations play significant role in creating inclusive society in Nigeria. The study recommended that government should support (he women organizations in the. service of humanity, thereby creating an inclusive society in Nigeria.
