This is due to the deteriorating conditions of living in the rural areas particularly Borno South. The traditional rural development strategies adopted are now challenged. Towards this end, efforts are shifted from government oriented rural development approach to a more of people centered approach. In recent years community development specialists focus on Community Based Organizations (CBOs) for rural development. In fact, emphasis is placed in mass participation of rural dwellers for the required socio-economic transformation in the area. Therefore, the study focused on the impact of the CBOs for rural development in Borno South. This study adopted the use of survey method and there were one hundred and twenty (120) CBOs found to be operating in the sixty-eight (68) village areas. They were assessed and the hypothesis was also analyzed through the use of chi-square (X2). Among other things it was found out that the projects/programmes executed through the CBOs in the study area even though few (464 projects) created positive impact by transforming the lives of the people living in the area and if encouraged will further brings about the required changes in the area. It was also found that the level of participation in both financial and human resources that fall within the ratio 1:42 between the total population in the area and number of people who participated in the activities of the CBOs for rural development could further be entrenched through the formation of more CBOs for mass participation.
