Item Open Access EFFECT OF COMMUNITY COUNSELLING ON POST TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDER AND DEPRESSION OF INTERNALLY DISPLACED PERSONS IN GUMA LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF BENUE STATE(Department of Educational Foundation, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2019-02-02) Reamen, Justina I.; Mayange, Levi Terzungwe; Tseaa, Moses VershimaThis paper examined the effect of community counselling on posttraumatic stress disorder and depression of internally displaced persons in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State. The study adopted a Quasi-experimental research design. The total population of the study was 2,352, consisting of all internally displaced persons in two (2) I DP camps in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State. A sample size of Sixty (60) subjects was used for the study. An intact group size of 28 IDPs using purposive sampling technique was selected from IDP camp at Ukpiam which was used for the control group while IDP camp at Daudu with 32 IDPs was used for the experimental group based on their needs. A self structured questionnaire titled depression, posttraumatic stress disorder and community counselling scale (DPCCS) was used. The control group, made up of IDPs from Ukpiam was given placebo on community living, while the experimental group at Daudu was treated with community counselling therapeutic techniques in form of lessons in 20 sessions. The data collected were analyzed using inferential statistics. Mean rating and the standard deviation were used to answer the research questions while ANCOVA was used to test the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The result indicated that community counselling have significant effect on depression and posttraumatic stress disorder of internally displaced people in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State. The study recommended that community counsellors should be made available by the Government and NGOs to sensitize the public on the need for unity, peace and psychological well being of the internally displaced persons.Item Open Access INFLUENCE OF INTERACTIVE MEDIA ON SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENT'S ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE IN MATHEMATICS IN KEFFI, NIGERIA(Department of Educational Foundation, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2022-01-01) Reamen, Justina I.; Mayange, Levi TerzungweThis paper examined the influence of interactive media on secondary school student's academic performance in Mathematics in Keffi. Interactive multimedia technology1 empowers the educational process by means of increased interaction between teachers and the students. The utilization of technology in the instructional media development has an important role in the increase of the quality of teaching and learning performances of students in Mathematics. The application of multimedia technology in the instructional media development is able to integrate aspects of knowledge and skills. The success of multimedia technology has revolutionized teaching and learning methods. The design of the study was descriptive survey design. The instrument used is titled: Interactive media and academic performance scale (IMAPS). Descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the data collected from secondary school students in Keffi. This study reports research finding indicated that there is a significance difference between the mean performances of students. The mathematics students performed better in media practice. The study recommended that multimedia instructional tool is an effective tool to enhance performance of students on practice skills in Mathematics.
