The artists as members of the society use their creativity as social commentary on their immediate society. Over emphasizing crimes and immoralities in creative contents corrupts the youth's minds. Culture is an agent of development in the society. Sadly, the societal cultures are becoming relics of deleted past to most youth due to globalization. Exemplary theatrical works andfilms that promote cultures, moral need to be projected and more encouraged. This article is modeled on social representational theory and adopted content analysis as a research tool. The paper sees corruption, bad parenting and violent religious preaching as other factors affecting the youth. Parents and religious leaders have significant roles to play in molding children and youth's behaviour. The article concludes that as product of the society we may have unique characteristics but shaped by cultural ideology. The paper recommends among others, that parents should be mindful of the kind of gifts and affluence they exposed their children to. Artists should reduce emphasis on sexuality, celebrity affluence and violence as such exposure pose danger to youth psyche and prioritize morality and cultural values. Government, cooperate 'organizations and influential citizens need to invest in educational system. There should be restriction in the use of social media especially for juveniles, banning of contents capable of compromising cultural and moral values.Item Open Access PRODUCTION DESIGN AND ITS SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY: DANC&ON HIS GRAVE, 2021 NASARAWA STATE UNIVERSITY PRODUCTION AS PARADIGM(Department of Theatre and Cultural Studies. Nasarawa State University, Keffi., 2021-12-12) Osumanyi, OkugyaThe practice of theatre in Nigeria i£ highly subjugated by Western theories and acting styles. Despite these challenges, production design continues to play socially responsive and responsible roles in our indigenous productions. Design throws more light on the actions and words of the characters to facilitate more of the audience intellectual comprehension of the play. Using content analysis methodology, the paper is able to identify the meeting point between theories and ' practice of design and technical theatre. It is observed that our indigenous performances are endowed with natural environment that presents the reality and lifestyle of our communities replicated in indigenous performances such as festivals, rituals, and rite-of-passages and so on. Hence, the end product (painting) of our scenographers are representations and reflections of our environmental reality in the theatre. The paper observed that though Western theories are used for the presentation of our indigenous performances, in a play like Dcmce on His Grave, the scenographic design aids in communicating the central message envisaged by the production team. More so, design adds aesthetics value to the production. The paper recommended among others that the acceptability of our local goods and services lies in the way they are portrayed to the foreign audienceship. And, designers should encourage the patronage of local crafts and sell same to project the image of NigeriaItem Open Access WOMEN PARTICIPATION IN NIGERIAN POLITICS: AN APPRAISAL OF 2015 GENERAL ELECTIONS(Department of Theatre and Cultural Studies, Nasarawa State University, Keffi., 2018-09-10) Odonye, Dauda Yusuf; Osumanyi, Okugya; Kadarko, Esther J.The main objective of this paper is an appraisal of the dynamics of Nigerian women involvement in politics since the birth of the fourth republic with special reference to the 2015 general elections. The major areas of their involvement in politics that this paper interrogated include participation in elective positions (Presidential, Gubernatorial, National and State Houses of Assembly elections), electioneering processes, campaigns and rallies among others. Utilising data which were generated through secondary sources coupled with the empirical data and subjected to descriptive analysis; the paper, fines out that in spite of the increasing number of Nigerian women in politics, the country's politics is still largely dominated by men. Tire findings further revealed that the challenges facing the active participation of Nigerian women in politics includes but not limited to cultural factor, lack of internal democracy among political parties, gender discrimination, lack of find and so on. The paper concludes that the involvement of women in Nigerian politics in the Fourth Republic has taken a new dimension especially with reference to 2015 general elections.
