Item Open Access AN ASSESSMENT OF MARKET COMPETITION IN THE NIGERIAN ELECTRICITY SUPPLY INDUSTRY AS PROVIDED UNDER THE ELECTRIC POWER SECTOR REFORM ACT, 2005(Department of Public and International Law, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2016-03-06) Zakari, Mohammed Yaro; Musa, Habiba; Okoronkwo, S.C.C.The liberalisation of the electric power sector in Nigeria through a process of reform introduced novel concepts and ideas in the management of the sector. The paradigm shift from a government owned monopoly to a private sector led market is, in itself, novel in Nigerian electricity governance. The novel ideas formed the basic objectives of the reform of the sector, and they include the introduction of an independent supervisory body for the sector and competition whose objective is to ensure stability of supply and reduce prices, in the sector. This article examines the concept of competition and its introduction into the electricity sector by the EPSR Act to cover both the pre and post privatisation stages of the liberalisation of the sector. It concludes by acknowledging the short term success achieved with competition in the sector while arguing that it is too early to determine the success or otherwise of a fully competitive electric power sector in Nigeria.Item Open Access CORRUPTION IN NIGERIA: DIMENSIONS AND IMPLICATION FOR NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT.(Department of Public and International Law, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2013-04-04) Essien, Isaac J.; Abdulkarim, Abubakar Kana; Okoronkwo, S.C.C.; Musa, HabibaItem Open Access DISTINGUISHING BETWEEN MILITARY AND NON-MILITARY OBJECTS OF ATTACK IN ARMED CONFLICTS(Department of Public and International Law, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2010-12-05) Okoronkwo, S.C.C.; Zakari, Mohammed YaroItem Open Access EFFECTIVE CORPORATE GOVERNANCE AS A CATALYST FOR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT(Department of Public and International Law, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2014-03-06) Zakari, Mohammed Yaro; Okoronkwo, S.C.C.; Musa, HabibaItem Open Access The Nature, Characteristics and Relevance of International Organizations(Department of Political Science, Nasrawa State University, Keffi., 2011-02-03) Okoronkwo, S.C.C.International Organizations arose out of the need for co-operation between and among States in areas and activities where it would be difficult to navigate alone. Thus, membership of an international organization is usually borne out of the need to belong to the current economic, social or political order, or to align with others in the pursuit of specific goals and objectives beneficial to all or to avoid being sidelined in a world where States are frequently engaged in asserting their influence and seeking ways of expanding same. The proliferation and ubiquity of international organizations and their activities, underscore their importance and relevance to the countries of the world and their citizenry, and help to emphasize the need for state and governmental action in many of the areas in which they are active. The activities of these organizations are far-reaching, from communication, river traffic, air traffic, rail transportation, to economic co-operation, medical collaboration and adjudication of disputes among others. Although international organizations and the tasks they perform are varied, they share certain common features. This paper examines those common characteristics that attach to international organizations, and finds that in today’s world, the importance and relevance of international organizations cannot be over-emphasized, and that this phenomenon is likely to be on the rise, in the future.Item Open Access UNDERSTANDING THE PROVISIONS OF THE ICPC ACT, THE POWERS OF THE ICPC, AND THE ROLE OF THE JUDICIARY IN TACKLING CORRUPTION IN NIGERIA.(Department of Public and International Law, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2016-04-08) Okoronkwo, S.C.C.; Zakari, Mohammed Yaro
