One of the reasons for the setbacks has been, an still is, religion which many politicians and, even the citizens have used to impede the smooth running of the political scene. In this study, we have looked at two Nigerian authors who have written in French (one of course is a translation into French). The authors seem to have treated the issues of religion and new imperialism as it concerns our contemporary society. These two phenomena have tremendously affected the smooth evolution of the Nigerian democratic process.Attend of the study, it was concluded that the authors identified that the democratic process in the contemporary society is hampered by religious hypocrisy and new form of imperialism. The study was done using the method of literary critical theory.
