Item Open Access ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT OF CHILDREN WITH DISABILITIES IN INCLUSIVE AND SPECIAL SCHOOLS IN NORTH CENTRAL GEO-POLITICAL ZONE, NIGERIA(Department of Educational Foundation, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2016-09-09) Jerry, Jummai E.; Mayange, Levi TerzungweIn the olden days people perceive education of children with disabilities in special schools as the best system of realizing their educational goals; but with current researchers revealed that this system deprives them from exploring their academic performances. Therefore this study was carried out to ascertain, if the academic achievement of children with disabilities from inclusive setting are better than those from special schools, and if the psychosocial behaviour of children in special school affect their academic performance and their social roles more than those in inclusive settings. Three research questions were formulated into three null hypotheses. The study used survey design conducted in the six geo-political states including the federal capital. One hundred and forty subjects were used by means of simple random sampling techniques from inclusive and special schools. Structured questionnaire was used in the study; validation and reliability of the instrument were tested in the sample schools. Three hypotheses were analyzed using descriptive analysis and three null hypotheses were tested, at 0.05 level of significance, t - test of statistic was used as the statistic techniques in this study. The findings revealed that there is significant difference in the academic achievement of children in special schools and those in inclusive settings. This was in favour of those in special schools. It traced the ethnoreligious crises in Nigeria to the past political practice where party politics was anchored m ethnic affiliation. The paper argued that this ethnic affiliation derived its inspiration from the past political practice, namely, the promotion of ethnic consciousness, and religious consideration for public offices among others. This development had put Nigeria it the threshold of disintegration. Hence, the need for social reconstruction in order to achieve sustainable development. Therefore efforts at achieving reconstruction must be based on the promotion of social justice, fairness, equity, rule of law and critical thinking education which is the only means by which individuals can be rational enough to reflect m their actions as they effect sustainable democratic culture in Nigeria.Item Open Access EFFECTS OF HERDSMEN ATTACK ON ECONOMIC, SOCIAL AND EDUCATIONAL DEVELOPMENT IN NASARWA STATE(Department of Educational Foundation, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2017-02-02) Mayange, Levi Terzungwe; Jerry, Jummai E.; Ayuba, Iya HarunaThe study investigated the effect of herdsmen attack on economic, social and school development of Nasarawa State. The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of herdsmen attack on economic, social and educational development. The variable of the study included economic, social and educational development. Descriptive survey design was adopted for the study. Three research questions and hypotheses guided the study. The population ofthe study was 1,379 displaced people fivm 2 local government areas, and the sample size was 300 respondents. A self-structured questionnaire titled: Effects of herdsmen attack on economic, social and educational development questionnaire (EHAESEO) containing 15 items was used for data collection. The instrument was validated by two lecturers fivm the Department of Educational Foundation, Nasarawa State University, Keffi. The data collected were analysed using means ratings and standard deviation in answering research questions and Chi-square ofgoodness of fit was used in testing null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings of the study revealed that herdsmen attacks have significant negative effects on economic, social and development of Nasarawa Stale. Based on the findings of the study the researchers made the following recommendations: that the Federal Government should deploy security agencies to the affected local government areas, and Nasarawa State House of Assembly should make laws prohibiting open grazing by herdsmen.Item Open Access INSECURITY OF SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT ON PSYCHOSOCIAL ADJUSTMENT OF STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES IN PLATEAU STATE(Department of Educational Foundation, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2016-02-02) Jerry, Jummai E.; Vintseh, Iliya Monday UsmanThis paper examinedthe insecurity of school environment on psychosocial adjustment of students with disabilities in Nigeria. Two research questions and two hypotheses guided the study The study used descriptive survey design. The participants were 300 students with disabilities (170 males and 130 females) from Plateau State. Data was analyzed using mean and standard deviation for research questions while the hypotheses'were tested at .05 with chi square and t — test statistics. The findings revealed that insecurity of school environment has significant influence on psychosocial adjustment of students with disabilities and that male and female children with disabilities differs significantly on influence of insecurity of school environment on psychosocial adjustment. Based on the findings the study recommends that ^f explosive weapons in schools should be prohibited.
