Item Open Access PREVALENCE OF PSYCHIATRIC DISORDERS IN VIOLENT CRIME BEHAVIOUR: CLERKED CLIENTS LIST, FEDERAL MEDICAL CENTRE, KEFFI(Department of Sociology, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2023-01-01) Ishaya, Daniel Leku; Ishaya, Anna DanielThe prevalence of psychiatric disorders and violent crime is unprecedented in the national health ■ emergency sectors especially FMC, Keffi health in a box. Psychiatric clients were recorded among the psychiatric cases in the clinic in federal medical centre, keffi. The objective of the study is to investigate the prevalence of psychiatric disorders and ways to curtail incidences of psychosocial disorders in the mental behaviour process of the clients under examination. The current states of disturbance of psychiatric patient clinic were characterized by schizophrenia disorder, anxiety disorder, depression disorder, alcoholic, antisocial personality disorder and mental illness and violent crime behaviour. Clinical depression and bipolar disorder were characterized by profoundly sad mood, overwhelming feelings of self-blame, guilt, and worthlessness, appetite disturbance in a recurrent thought of death or suicide. The study revealed that the effective prevalence and treatment for psychiatric clients will enhanced management of the psychosocial disorder and the recovering of health well- being of the psychiatric patient’s clinic. The study concluded and recommends that the psychiatric disorders and violent crime were assessed through medical examination and national registers with reported incident psychotic symptoms. The pattern of inner experience and behaviour of violent crime is a significant health problem causing severe medical and social problems, considerable human suffering a huge economic cost. The prevalence of crime rates may supply more information about criminal behaviour than crime registers because of the high rate of unregistered less severe violent crime and therefore underestimate the psychiatric disorders and criminal behaviour.Item Open Access PUBLIC PERCEPTIONS OF POLICE INVESTIGATION OF CRIME: IMPLICATION FOR SECURITY AND CRIMINAL INTELLIGENCE IVESTIGATION(Department of Sociology, Nasarawa State University, Keffi, 2018-10-16) Ishaya, Daniel Leku; Ishaya, Anna DanielPerceptions of the Police and public in criminal investigation in Lafia, Nasarawa state are the central focus of the study. The objective of this study is to examine the police and the public perceptions in criminal investigation in Nigeria. The specific objectives of the study is to: Determine the police and public in criminal investigation in Nasarawa State; Examine the relationship between police criminal investigation and crime reporting; Examine challenges confronting police criminal investigation in Nasarawa State; Investigate how police investigation can be improved in the administration of the criminal justice system. Survey design was used and a sample size of 211 respondents was selected through stratified and simple random sampling techniques. Primary data generated through questionnaires were analyzed quantitatively by the use of simple percentages, tables, and correlation statistical technique was employed to test the hypotheses. Structured-interviews and Control theory was developed and adopted. From the analysis of data generated for the study, the following are major findings: Lack of hardware equipment and scientific techniques. Also, the study discovered that there is a poor publicpolice relationship. Unfortunately, this has greatly affected the smooth and successful investigation by the police. The study found that there is no police welfare and consequently, little or no motivation among the police. The combination of the above mentioned lead to low performances of police criminal investigation. This negates the sole duty of investigation and by implication, translates into weakening the future for criminal justice. Consequently, this leads to future cycles of injustice and increases in crime. The study recommends adequate finding ofpolice for effective service delivery in the area of crime investigation and crime management. Effort must be made to ensure that the welfare of police officers is improved to spur them to duty. There should be a synergy between the public and the police in terms of crime reporting and investigation. In conclusion, adequate provision of hardware equipment and qualified personnel is necessary for prompt criminal investigation in ensuring effective crime prevention and crime management.
