    We contend that policies of ensuring gender equity and promotion of women entrepreneurship are inseparable. Based on anecdotal evidence, we present the ugly aspect of women entrepreneurship as far back as the 13 Century in Europe, Britain and Canada and the progress made in recent times. The relevance of classical economic theory for our understanding of entrepreneurial issues is examined. The paucity and quality of empirical evidence on the subject matter is noteworthy. We present a case to examine the asymmetric roles of male and female genders in leadership.
