    Concerns and Benefits of PrEP: Lessons from the National PrEP Demonstration Project Formative Study in Nigeria

    The use of antiretrovirals(ARVs) as pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) reduces the risk of HIV transmission in serodiscordantcouples in Africa. • The design of effective strategies for delivery and optimal uptake of this new prevention tool begins with an understanding of likely public attitudes. • We conducted a formative study to identify: o A demonstration study group; o Potentially effective approaches to public health messaging about PrEP; o Possible community concerns and logistical challenges; o Options for addressing these challenges when implementing a PrEPDemonstration Project in Nigeria.
