The field is concerned with the objective measurement of skills and knowledge, abilities, attitudes, personality traits, and educational achievement. Some psychometric researchers focus on the construction and validation of assessment instruments such as questionnaires, tests, raters' judgments, and personality tests. Therefore, this study investigated the application of psychometric properties of an instrument for assessing Quantitative Economics students' achievement in Dunukifia Local Government Area of Anambra State, Nigeria in relation to item difficulty, distracter and discriminating items. From a target population of 5 selected secondary schools, asampleof 130 Economics students were sampled using simple random sampling technique. Data were collected with the aid of a validated questionnaire for assessment with a reliability co-efficient of 0.89 index using the Kuder-Richerson 21 method. Data were analyzed using Psychometric Properties Statistics Model (PPSM) to answered research questions. The results show that items that were difficult, distracted and discriminated affected students' academic achievement in Quantitative Economics. It was recommended that Economics students should devote their time to study quantitative aspects of Economics in such way that it will improve their academic achievement. The teacher is tints, the builder whose achievement depends on adequate qualification, experience and teaching method. This adequate knowledge, experience, qualification and teaching method could be attained or achieved by acquiring additional knowledge that will stimulate his/her communication in teaching for efficiency. This study assessed the Economics teachers' characteristics as correlate of senior secondary school students' academic achievement in Economics in Keffi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Nigeria. Expo facto survey research design was used. The Economics teachers' characteristics in this study were limited to 7 senior secondary schools with 2,245 respondents as population with a sample of 3 schools and 120 respondents in study area. The stratified random sampling technique was used. The questionnaire on Teachers' characteristics and students' academic achievement (QTCSA) with the Students' Proforma for Economics Results (SPER) were used as instilments for data collection. Content validity of the questionnaire was 0.79 index and the reliability coefficient was 0.86 obtained through the use of Cron bach's Alpha. Data generated from this study were collated and analyzed using descriptive statistics to answer research questions and inferential statistics of Pearson Product Moment Correlation analysis was used to test formulated hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The study found out that there was statistical significant relationship between Economics teachers' characteristics and students' academic achievement. It was recommended that Economics teachers need to possess all the characteristics for the excellent achievement of students in Economics examinationItem Open Access EFFECT OF TEST ANXIETY ON ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE OF COLLEGE OF EDUCATION STUDENTS IN N ASARAWA STATE, NIGERIA(Department of Guidance and Counselling, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2020-01-01) Ugbe, Lucy Ungie-Ada; Blani, Audu Samson; Allahnana, Kwanza MaikudiThis paper focused on the assessment of test anxiety among students of Nasarawa State College of Education academic performance as an area of study. The research employed descriptive survey research design as appropriate for this study. Th,e population of the study consisted of 8,124 second year students of Colleges of Education in Nasarawa State. The sample for the study consisted 812 second year students. Simple random sampling technique was adoptedfor sampling the students. The researchers developed Statistics Anxiety Instrument (SAl) consisting of 30 items that reveal traits of test anxiety that students exhibit before, during and after a test. The instrument yielded 0.79 as index ofl ogical validity through experts’ appraisaland 0.84 as index of internal consistency through the Cronbach Alpha method of computing reliability. Descriptive statistics was used to summarize data related to the research questions, t-test statistics was used to test the null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The study found out that during statistics test, students mostly get so nervous that they forget facts that they know while thinking about the grades they may get interferes with their study and achievement in statistics examination. The study recommended that lecturers should employ different teaching methods that students-centered and techniques such as frequent testing, assignments, and projects after teaching a topic to reduce student test anxiety especially when a test is announced.Lecturers should also announce every test and give students enough time to prepare both physically and mentally.
