Item Open Access AGRICULTURAL SECTOR AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT: EVIDENCE FROM NIGERIA: 1999-2020(Department of Economics, Nasarawa State University, Keffi., 2021-06-06) Ewa, Agyo Ismaila; Akawu, Francis A.; Henry, Ahmed EggonThis study therefore examined the impact of agricultural sector on sustainable development in Nigeria from 1999 to 2020. The research design adopted in the study was the ex-post facto research design and the study was anchored on the Solow-Swan model economic model. The study analyzed the secondary data collected using the ARDL method of analysis. Study findings revealed that Agricultural output has a significant impact on the sustainable development in Nigeria within the study period. Agricultural sector employment however was observed to insignificant to sustainable development in Nigeria. It was observed from the study that government expenditure has a significant effect on sustainable development in Nigeria. While foreign exchange earnings was observed to be insignificant to sustainable development in Nigeria. Based on the study findings the study recommended that Agricultural sector must be enhanced to contribute more to the nation's output and this can be achieved through mechanized fanning. The study also recommended that government needs to provide policy supports to diverse aspect of agricultural production to increase employment opportunities. Finally, the study recommends that Government agricultural expenditure, both capital and recurrent expenditure must be judiciously directed to achieve utmost efficiency.Item Open Access ASSESSMENT OF INFORMAL SECTOR ACTIVITIES AND POVERTY ALLEVIATION IN KCEBBI STATE NIGERIA.(Department of Economics, Nasarawa State University, Keffi., 2021-01-06) Akawu, Francis A.; Henry, Ahmed Eggon; Adelowo, AdewaleThe objective of this study is to cany out an assessment of informal sector activities and poverty alleviation in Kebbi State, .The methods used include the chi-square test which validates the robustness of the model, the while the Z-test was used for the hypothesis testing of the variables. The logistic regression was used for the model estimation. The results of the analysis showed that taxi driving activities, income, employment, savings, assests and education are key variables necessaiy in poverty alleviation in Kebbi State. However, income and total assets were more impactful among the variables in reducing poverty in kebbi state. The hypothesis showed that informal sector activities has a significant relationship with poverty reduction in Kebbi State. Additionally the chi-square lest revealed that the model is very robust and good for analysis. The paper concludes by recommending that Informal sector transport operators should try to earn more income to be able to put food on the table. Since a person cannot be considered living in poverty if he is able to provide himself with three square meals per day. Sub national government has constantly faced rigorous challenges in carrying out their developmental duties. This study therefore examines the impact offiscal federalism on the growth of sub-national government in Central Nigeria. The study adopted quantitative longitudinal panel data regression analysis using data collected from 1997- 2016. Findings from the study showed that Internally Generated Revenue of sub- national governments have a significant contribution to Economic Growth in Central Nigeria. It was also obseived from the study that Sub-national government Statutory Allocation has a significant impact on Economic Grozvth in Central Nigeria. Based on the study findings it was recommended that Federal laws should be adjusted to give more economic power to the sub national governments in order to enhance its ability to generate internal revenue in the state. The state governments need to structure an effective tax collecting system as more revenue can be generated through tax for economic growth. The study used secondary data base on time series trend element. An Augmented Dick - fuller {ADF) test was conducted on the data to ascertain the stationary of the variables as to allow a co- integration analysis to be undertaken. The findings revealed that there has been positive relationship between GDP and public expenditure both at aggregated and disaggregated level. Hence government disbursement of financial has impetus to boost economic growth in Nigeria. Therefore it is recommended among others that government should invest more on both human resources and physical capital in order to enhance economic growth in Nigeria.
