Not only individuals, institutions and governments are adopting the ICT in all spheres of human endeavour, nothing can be moved in the next few years without the use of ICT. Today e-government and e-governance are becoming the order of the day and Nigerian institutions have long adopted and applied the technology in the provision of its services to their citizens. Against thisdevelopment, this study assessed the effect of e-governance on the delivery of Service in the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS). To achieve this objective, five questions were raisedThese are: 1. what kinds of e-governance facilities are in the NIS? 2. What are the capabilities of the NIS staff in the knowledge of ICT? 3. What are the effects of such services on efficiency? 5. What is public perception on the efficiency of e-governance? The survey method was used It was found that there is significant relationship between e-governance and efficient service delivery. The study recommends that e-governance should be pursued in the service of the NIS in order to improve staff performance and more training on the usage of ICT facilities to improve service delivery.Item Open Access Federal Character Principle and Compliance of Staff Recruitment in Usmanu Danfodio University Sokoto and Federal University Gusau, Nigeria(Department of Public Administration, Nasarawa State University, Keffi., 2020-12-06) Abdullahi, Ahmad Chiroma; Hussaini, Hassan Tukur; Abubakar, Aliyu BafetoCompliance of the Federal Character Principle on staff recruitment among zones in Public institutions is becoming problematic; as employment representation is dominated by few zones; that is overrepresentation, while other zones in the universities employment was under-represented which resulted to imbalances in national spread of representation in the country. The paper seeks to examine the compliance of the Federal Character Principle on Staff Recruitment in Usmanu Danfodio University and Federal University Gusau, Nigeria. It covers a period of five years (2014- 2019), using Expost Factor Research Design. Secondary sources of data collection were used such as periodical publications of the Federal Character Commission. Process theory of Federalism is adopted. The study revealed that sociocultural differences; ethnicity, nepotism and the security issue were among the challenges that impede the compliance with the Federal Character commission’s principle in Staff Recruitment. The study recommends the need for the Government to provide a means of inculcating the feeling of national unity among its citizens. This will help in managing cultural diversity, discouraging ethnocentrism, nepotism and promoting social inclusion, fairness and justice in the country. This would produce more patriotic and committed leaders that would enhance the integration of the nations into one entity and place national interest above any other parochial sentiments.Item Open Access ROLE OF LAFIA LOCAL GOVERNMENT AS A TOOL FOR RURAL DEVELOPMENT: ASSESSMENT BY RESIDENTS(Department of Public Administration, Nasarawa State University, Keffi., 2016-12-26) Hussaini, Hassan Tukur; Abubakar, Aliyu Bafeto; Mohammed, Sha'awu HamzaThe aim of this study is to assess the role ofLafia Local Government as to whether it serves as a tool of rural development. -Tn other words, whatrole does Lafia Local Government plays in rural development or not? To achieve this objective, the following three questions were raised: (i) what is the level in the provision of social amenities by Lafia Local Government? (ii) what are the social amenities-being provided in its rural areas? (lit) are people in Lafia Local Government satisfied with the efforts of local government at rural development? The. survey research method was adopted and a hypothesis- was also tested. It found that Lafia Local Government served as a tool for rural development. The study recommends that the provision of social amenities should be made the utmost priority in rural development, services provided in clinics, should be expanded to reduce referral to major hospitals. Empowerment of the rural people should be given priority in order to build their capacity to participate and contribute their quota to their own development.
