This work is necessitated on the premise that no state in the modern times can avoid involvement in international affairs, and this involvement must be systematic and based on certain principles. The objective of this work was to assess Nigeria-united states bilateral trade relation and its impact on Nigeria's economic growth. The Neoliberal theory formed a framework of analysis. Data for this study was obtained from both primary and secondary sources; the survey research design was adopted while descriptive qualitative method was used as the method of data analysis. The research unfolded findings shows that Although there is evidence that the two countries benefit significantly from their trade relations, US benefit outweigh that of Nigeria and Nigeria is becoming increasingly dependent on US perhaps over relying on its domestic product. There exist a noticeable imbalance of trade between US and Nigeria which favors US but this notwithstanding, the volume of trade between US and Nigeria is still on the increase indicating an improved economic and trade relations between Nigeria-US since 1999.The study recommended that Nigeria should renegotiate her economy relations with U.S to avoid the dumping of goods in Nigeria and to promote indigenously driven industrialization of the economy with U.S assistant and cooperation. Nigeria-U.S bilateral trade relations should go beyond economy ties but rather be directed to collaborate in industrializing Nigeria economy through technology transfer in this respect.Item Open Access NIGERIAN AND THE CHALLENGES OF FISCAL FEDERALISM(Department of Political Sciences, Nasarawa State University, Keffi., 2010-06-12) Abdullahi, Salau ModibboThe Nigerian federalism has been facing a lot of challenges on how to share and disburse national resources in terms of what goes to each of the component units of the federation. Several efforts were made towards having an acceptable revenue allocation formula yet, an acrimonious agitations abound. This is not only in Nigeria but also in so many federal states. In Nigeria, the challenge of fiscal federalism is not only on how to allocate revenue from the central government to units but also, on how to generate the revenues. Toddy, every component unit of the federation is dissatisfied with the revenue sharing formula. Currently, the 13% derivation allocated to oil producing states from the revenue generated from oil has been contentious even among the beneficiaries, which lead to the agitation for resource control. The intense politics associated with revenue generation and allocation has been a serious challenge to the stability' of the nation. What are the factors responsible for this? How can these issues be addressed, so as to achieve a stable federal state in Nigeria? This paper will employ a descriptive and analytical method to interrogate the factors responsible for this ugly challenge. To properly have a grasp of the concept of federalism.Item Open Access The Nigerian Federalism: Its Challenges and the Quest for Restructuring(Department of Political Science, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2018-01-13) Abdullahi, Salau ModibboNigerian state adopted a federal system of governance since colonial era because of its heterogeneous orientation. The root of federalism was planted in Nigeria with the amalgamation of southern and northern protectorate by Lord Lugard in 1914 and further consolidated by colonial constitution of Richard in 1922 and Machpherson constitution, 1954 and finally the Republic constitution 1959. The Nigerian federalist structure was further consolidated by further constitutional reform through state creation in 1962 since then; the system is faced with a lot of challenges of structural, economic, political and sociocultural imbalances. In trying to uncover the causes of aforementioned challenges facing Nigerian federalism, I intend to adopt descriptive and analytical method of analysis. The work will be guided by the use of federalist theory for the proper direction of the work. Fundamental questions as to why the challenges and why the increasing calls for restructuring of the country will be handled. This study tends to make some recommendations that that can improve the role to be played by our security agencies to ensure credible elections in Nigeria
