Item Open Access BARRIERS TO ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT IN NIGERIA(Enterpreneurship Department, Nasarawa State University, Keffi, 2013-01-09) Abdullahi, Dauda; Balogun, Nasiru AlhajiThis study examines at the stumbling blocks that impede the development of entrepreneurship in Nigeria. A nation cannot develop without a flourishing entrepreneurship, while Nigeria has being clamouring for economy development entrepreneurship which supposes to channel this development is faced with a number of problems. Using literature survey, the sturdy identified that the major stumbling blocks impeding entrepreneurship development in Nigeria among others are: lack of capital, government actions and lack of proper understanding of the business environment. It was concludes and recommended that entrepreneurship is not all about having a business idea and innovation, government should as a matter of urgency should improve the deplorable status of infrastructures, especially electricity and that prospective entrepreneurs should undergo entrepreneurship trainings.Item Open Access Effects Of Management Control System On Goal Congruence Of Selected Banks In Nigeria(Department Of Accounting, Faculty Of Administration, Nasarawa State University, Keffi., 2016-12-01) Ismaila, Olotu Abdullahi; Ahmed, Baba Ibrahim; Musa, Hassan; Abdullahi, Musa Abdullahi; Abdullahi, DaudaNon-alignment of employee's goal with that of an organisation could seriously affect the performance level of the organisation. While previous studies focused on the effects of management control on performance, it is argued that there are many factors that influence the performance of an organization; thus, an organization that performs well does not necessarily imply that there is goal congruence. This study used data collected from five deposit money Banks to examine the effects of management control measures on goal congruence. The result of the analysis using ordinary least square regression shows that, the management control measures of the Banks, adopting the behavioural approach, have significant effects on the level of goal congmence. The study therefore recommends that the Banks should continue to place high premium on behavioural approach to management control system, while the use of punishments should be discouraged.Item Open Access THE ROLE OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP DEVELOPMENT IN POVERTY ALLEVIATION IN NIGERIA(Department of Enterprenuership, Nasarawa State University, Keffi, 2012-11-19) Abdullahi, DaudaStudies revealed that the problem of poverty is highly common in most African countries. I his ugly trend calls for interventions by various international agencies and government of such countries to embark on strategies to reduce the scourge of poverty and promote productive enterprises. Poverty is a global phenomenon which could be combated through the use of target economic and entrepreneurial projects. High degrees of poverty combined with slow economic growth in the formal sector has forced many parts of developing countries’ population into self-employment, while entrepreneurship development has played a significant role in economic growth, innovation, competiveness and poverty alleviation. This paper reviews entrepreneurship development as a strategy for poverty alleviation in Nigeria. Using survey method and secondary data, the study finds that the persistent economic hardship aggravated by unemployment in Nigeria leading to high attendance of poverty could be reduced to the barest minimum if entrepreneurship development could be given adequate attention by the government and well to do individuals in the society. The study recommended that for poverty to be reduced in Nigeria, education should be given adequate attention by the government. Also vocational training should be given high attention as it will go a long way to reducing poverty.
