Item Open Access GOOD GOVERNANCE AS PANACEA TO CHALLENGES TO INSECURITY AND ECONOMIC INTEGRATION OF WEST AFRICAN STATES(Department of Public Administration, Nasarawa State University Keffi, 2019-11-11) Abdullahi, Mohammed; Ibrahim, Isah Salisu; Ahmed, Abubakar Audi; John, Atte A.Abstract This paper examines the significance of good governance as a panacea to addressing challenges of insecurity and economic integration of West African States. Over the years nations of West Africa have rallied around the ECOWAS as an instrument for economic emancipation and integration, along with is, the bloc uses another of its instrument - the ECOMOG to curtail civil conflict and war. Yet, several new security problems that were not envisaged at time of the creation of ECOMOG have put the mechanism to taste and groups like the BOKO Haram, the Toreg rebels among others are threatening the survival of the ECOWAS. This paper employ analysis of existing data method to analyse documented evidence on the subject matter of the paper. It findings are that there is a relationship between absence of basic services (potable water, healthcare, education etc.) some products of good governance and economic development on hand and the rising insecurity on the other hand. The paper therefore, recommend that the ECOWAS bloc must give priority to good and quality governance by ensuring the welfare and wellbeing of its people are qualitatively enriched in other to reversed the current wave of security challenges threatening its unity and survival.Item Open Access I Will Follow the Green Grass: Issues in Resolving Farmer-Herder Conflicts in Plateau State, Nigeria(Department of Public Administration, Nasarawa State University, Keffi., 2019-11-12) Vahyala, Adamu Tari; Abdullahi, Mohammed; Hussaini, Hassan TukurThe continues spite of violent conflicts between pas fora lists and farmers in Plateau is still generating heated debates, arguments, and counter arguments. Therefore, this study interrogated some critical aspects confronting and undermine the mechanisms in resolving issues among the trvo contending parties in the study areas. Survey design was adopted as a framework while purposive sampling techniques were used to select three (3) local Government Areas, nine (9) communities and One Hundred and Thirty (130) target audiences. This study relied on both primary and secondary method of data collection. Key Informant Interviews (KIIs), Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) and Study Charts (SCs) wen conducted across the study anas, while white paper reports, journal articles and'newspapers were also exploited. Thematic Content Analysis (TCA) was used to analyse the field work repots of KIIs, FGDs.and SCs. Theoretically, the paper adopted Collier's theory of economic agenda of conflicts to explain 'the this work.Thus,the study discovered and argued that issues confronting the management of conflicts is symmetric with; land grabbing, stereotype, under-aged herders, among others. Therefore the study concludes that tension can be managed and peace .restored if State government, in collaboration with local authorities constitute a balance committee to look into the wide spread issue of land grabbing with a view of reclaiming back land assets to genuine owners, Federal and State Governments to enact laws through the legislative Houses against chi Id-herder, night graying and institute local Task-Force to oversee the implementation of the law.
