Item Open Access Description of Dormant Nature in the Poems of Al-Wazir Junaid: His Poem on “Kofar Kuri” as a Case Study(Department of Islamic Studies Nasarawa State University Keffi., 2011-02-03) Jimba, Moshood Mahmood M.; Abubakar, S.I. WakawaPrior to the emergence of Junaid bn Al-Bukhari, the Wazir of Sokoto on the Arabic poetry scene in the mid of the 20th century>, description of nature as a poetic theme was not popular. This is inspite of the fact that Nigerian scholars of Arabic have used Arabic medium to compose poems on various human endeavours for over four centuries. Apart from a poem composed by a 17 century scholar, Shaykh Tahir Ibrahim Fairamma in which war weapons were described and another one titled MJaish al-Futuh” (conquering troops) by Abdullahi bn Fodio in the ldh century part of which gave vivid description of the desert, hardly can one find a good descriptive poem composed by a Nigerian before the 2Q/h century. The Arabic renaisance witnessed in the 2d1 century was owed to the emergence of some notable scholars in Arabic literature. The scholars used Arabic medium to compose poem on various aspects of human activities, nature inclusive. This paper briefly studies one of such poems by the Wazir of Sokoto Shaykh Junaid bn Bukhari.
