Item Open Access ASSESSMENT OF LEVEL OF DISCLOSURE OF MANDATORY INFORMATION IN THE FINANCIAL REPORTS OF DEPOSIT MONEY BANKS IN NIGERIA(Department of Accounting, Nasarawa State University, Keffi, 2015-07-22) Adamu, Danlami AhmedMandatory Disclosure is information required by law to be disclosed by an entity in its annual report and account. This work is aimed at assessing the extent to which Nigerian Deposit money Banks disclosed mandatoiy information in the financial reports and Account. The population of the study comprised of the entire 15Deposit Money Banks listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange as at December, 20/3, it covered the period of 5 years from 2009 to 2013. The study employed ex-post factor research design; secondary data were collected from a sample ofeleven (11) Deposits money banks annual reports. Descriptive statistics and Content analysis method were employed, with the use of scoring and grading method. The study found that Nigerian Deposit money banks (DMBs) disclosed mandatory requirement in a strong form. It is recommended that major steps should be taken by the Federal reporting council of Nigeria (FRCN) and other regulatory bodies to ensure full compliance with relevant International financial reporting standards/international Accounting standards (IFRS/IAS) accounting disclosure requirements. And to ensure strong compliance with non-mandatoiy requirement by the Nigerian Deposit money Banks for better decision making by their users.
