EFFECT ON NON AUDITING SERVICES ON THE QUALITY OF AUDIT REPORT IN THE LISTED MANUFACTURING FIRMS IN NIGERIA

The provision of Non Auditing Services (NASs) by auditors to their audit clients has generated arguments as to whether such could compromise auditor's independence and the quality of the audit report. This study examines the various claims in support and against the provision of NASs. The perceptions of stakeholders in the listed manufacturing firms art evaluated in this study using a survey method. The data were analysed using Kruskal-Williams test of independence. It was found that there is no significant difference in the perception of stakeholders on the effect ofproviding NASs on the auditor's independence and audit quality Based on the findings, it is recommended that even though the provision of NASs as found in this study does not have negative effects on the quality of the audit report, caution must be taken to reduce the level of familiarity which could be generated due to serving a long tenure as auditors of a particular firm. This could lead to complacency in the issuance of a qualified and audit report.
