Item Open Access EFFECT OF NON-PERFORMING LOANS ON PROFITABILITY OF NIGERIAN DEPOSIT MONEY BANKS(Department of Banking and Finance, Nasarawa State University, Keffi., 2017-10-16) Musa, Abdulkarim; Amana, A. SamuelThis study investigates effect of non-performing loans on profitability of Nigerian deposit money bank. The challenges posed by incidences of non-performing loans on profitability of deposit money banks is alarming, posing great risks to the capital adequacy and deposit liabilities of these banks. Data were collected from financial reports of these banks and analyzed by the use of multiple regression. Findings show positive relationship between capital adequacy ratio, deposit portfolio and non-performing loans of deposit money banks. It is therefore recommended that capital adequacy ratio of microfinance banks be increased in order to make them able to absolve shocks of non-performing loans and other associated credit default risks among others.Item Open Access IMPACT OF CAPITAL MARKET PERFORMANCE INDICATORS ON ECONOMIC GROWTH IN NIGERIA(Department of Banking and Finance, Nasarawa State University, Keffi., 2017-10-18) Yusuf, A. Bala; Amana, A. SamuelThis study examines the impact of capital market performance indicators on economic growth of Nigeria for the period2006-2017. By adopting multiple regression technique on secondary data, it was found that the capital market performance has positively and significantly impacted on the Nigerian economy within the period of the study 2006-2017. The study therefore, recommends among others that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the Nigeria Stock Exchange (NSE) and Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) should ensure free flow of information in the market. This is necessary»in order to attract more investors and increase new issues which will automatically increase the quantum of market capitalization that will result in improving the performance of the Nigeria capital market.
